Gustave Baumann

Gustave Baumann, American, (June 27, 1881 – October 1971) was Santa Fe's preeminent woodblock artist, active from the beginning to beyond the middle of the 20th century. "Summer Clouds" is by far the artist's most popular image. Our's is an original, authentic woodblock print, with the image measuring: 10 1/2" high x 9 1/4" wide. Its paper dimensions measure 12 1/4" high x 11" wide. It is entitiled near lower left at margin in pencil "Summer Clouds". It is signed near lower right, also in pencil "Gustave Baumann". It is editioned bottom center as No. 37 of 100. Its original Gustave Baumann constructed and painted frame is included, which measures 20" high x 18 1/2" wide. The print was professionally cleaned by Joel Oppenheimer Inc, our nation's leading print conservator, located in Chicago, Illinois. The frame also received a minor cleaning by a reputed local conservator. While its asking price for such a superb example of this print starts at $30,000 in many Santa Fe galleries, ArtReach is asking the more modest sum of $18,000. Its still brilliant color and vibrancy are protected by conservator's UV glass, although the original Baumann glass is included. Click on image to enlarge.
